Tonight was our not so annual changing out the food in our 72 hour kits, switching out the clothes with new sizes and updating our contact list. Apparently by the dates on our food we must have forgotten to do it last year, oops. Every time we get our kits out it is a good reminder for our kids about being prepared not just physically but mentally. They are become mentally prepared by knowing and understand how to use the items in their backpack. They gain an understanding of how to use their emergency blanket or ration their water. Jon has a 72 hour kit in his car because most of his time is spent outside the home. I keep mine at the house and each one of children have a backpack that we also keep at home. I like the idea that each child has their own kit and that they are responsible for it. After going through our 72 hour kits, we spent the night roasting marshmallows and making smores. I am grateful for the counsel given by the Prophet to make sure we are prepared and giving us guidance on how to do it.
